By now, we’re all pretty familiar with the gorgeous, kind, and funny Tess Holliday. She’s been making waves and paving the way for a while now, and has become a household name. Her big news today nearly moved me to tears, and here’s why…
Tess Announced today that she is gracing the cover (yes, COVER) of People Magazine! That is so major. I grew up in an era when thin was in. Anything else has been looked down at as being less than perfect or beautiful. That really messes with your head. Not fitting up to the size 0, perfectly air-brushed standards, has a major effect on self image.
This next generation is growing up with images of women being themselves, loving themselves, and working together to lift each other up, and not put each other down. Could it be? Have we finally reached a period in history where people are able to see the beauty in every body type? We may ALWAYS have progress to make, I’m sure, but this is huge.
If I’m ever lucky enough to have a daughter (or son for that matter) one day, I want her to know that there is beauty in every curve, mole, freckle, and hair on her body. I want her to know that beauty comes in every shape, size, and color. Beauty comes from every direction and location. Beauty hides in the most random of places. Somehow, beauty manages to be both rare and abundant all at the same time.
Here’s to Tess and the work she is doing! I wish her all the greatest success in the world. She’s such an inspiration to me and many others, and I’m thankful the world is taking note.
