I, admittedly, have never been great with makeup. It’s a skill set I have yet to master, and hope to one day soon. In fact, I typically stick to the absolute basics of foundation, mascara, and a spot of blush… on the days I wear makeup. Needless to say, I hardly even know what makeup colors or styles look good on my ol’ mug, so I decided to give this Makeup Genius app a go.
If you’re unfamiliar with this app, here’s how it’s described in the app store:
Forget everything you know about the makeup apps you’ve seen before…
L’Oréal Paris introduces the 1st virtual makeup tester. Try makeup looks and products on yourself and see them move with you in real time. This exclusive technology from major Hollywood studios has never been seen before in the world of beauty. Create your own or try ready-to-wear looks curated by makeup artists instantly. See yourself made up in just one click. Virtual makeup try-on has never been more real.
Your smartphone becomes your mirror…
…and your next must have beauty accessory
I got all excited thinking this was my chance to try a bunch of makeup/looks on without having to purchase a ton of makeup that I may never use again. Woot! Sounds great, right? Of course! And for the most part, the app is pretty fun to play with.
Here are a few tips I’d offer:
♦ Play with this on a day when you are already feeling pretty solid about yourself. The mirror/camera aspect is not overly flattering.
♦ Wear foundation (see previous tip).
♦ Be patient. Lining the look up with your face can be a challenge, and is probably the biggest con of the app.
Here’s a quick glance at me playing around with the app- I hope you’ll still love me after seeing these:
The app is free, so if you’re someone who loves playing with makeup, or a makeup novice like myself, it’s certainly worth trying out. I’d really be curious to see what you think of it, and what kind of luck you have.
