Most folks are familiar with comedian Louis C.K., and his work. He’s a funny guy, and he isn’t afraid to go where others may avoid or tread lightly at best. Well he is now in the news in a major way, and people can’t stop talking about. Louis went there. On the most recent episode of his TV show, Louis, Mr. C.K. attacked the issue of dating a fat girl. Why is this newsworthy, and… why would I talk about it on a plus size fashion blog? I’m glad you asked!
Louis confronted the topic of dating a fat girl, but did it in a way we’re not used to seeing in the media. He gave the girl a voice. A legit, real life, honest voice.
In the episode, Vanessa, Louis’ date, asks him if he has ever dated a fat girl. After insisting he has, Vanessa says,
“No, no, no, I didn’t say have you ever fu**ed a fat girl, Louis. I’m sure you have. Every guy has. I mean, when I met you, if I had said, ‘Hey, do you want to go to the bathroom and screw on a big can of peaches?’ you would have gone for it. No, I’m saying, have you ever dated a fat girl. Have you ever kissed a fat girl? Have you ever wooed a fat girl? Have you ever held hands with a fat girl? Have you ever walked down the street in the light of day, holding hands, with a big girl like me?”
I’m at a stage where I’m trying hard to overcome the woe is me feeling about being a heavy girl. I’m sick of blaming other people, and convincing myself that I’m the only one with challenges, so I don’t love those sort of undertones in this monologue, however, this isn’t the entire episode, AND I really want to thank Louis for approaching the subject and doing it in a sincere way. Few things are as fashionable as honesty.
Here’s the final scene from the show (on FX):
